Paraphilias: Definitions and Clinical Considerations

Dr. Lorena Vázquez Santiago is a Nuyorican, Latina, Clinical-Forensic Psychologist, and a Rehabilitation Counselor. Alumna from The Chicago Professional School of Psychology, Los Angeles Campus, and the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. She is currently working in her private practice Starfish Psychological Services in Puerto Rico. Her clinical background includes community mental health services, in-home therapy, telephone crisis intervention, in-home crisis interventions, psychiatric hospitalization, juvenile offenders evaluations, sex offenders’ evaluations, and trauma. Her research interests are related to crisis, gender issues, human sexuality, trauma, and offender’s rehabilitation.

Dr. Vázquez received her Master in Rehabilitation Counseling from University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. She is a licensed counselor in Puerto Rico and licensed clinical psychologist. Lorena holds different certifications including: Alternative Dispute Resolutions, Interventionist and Prevention of Domestic Violence, National Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Therapeutic Addictions Counselor. She received her Doctoral Degree in Clinical-Forensic Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles, California.

She is currently working towards a Certification in Sexual Abuse. Dr. Vázquez’s employment history includes: Teacher, Assertive Community Treatment Specialist, Clinical Liaison, Crisis Therapist, Counselor and Crisis Specialist, Graduate Program Coordinator, Graduate Program Professor, Clinical Director, Chief Executive Officer, and Clinical Forensic Psychologist. She has a broad array of population experiences including: Youth at Risk, Severe Mental Ill population, Juvenile Offenders, Adult Offenders, Family Preservation, Family Reunification, Sex Offenders, and Crisis Interventions both in English and Spanish.
