What is Intimate Discrimination? Examining the Politics and Ethics of Sexual Desirability
This course is an introduction to desirability politics, a framework that argues that whom we desire and do not desire sexually, romantically, and socially is political and informed by systemic oppression, such as racism, ableism, cissexism, and classism. This course will give participants the opportunity and space to examine, reflect on, and share their own experiences with and understandings of desire and desirability. They will also be able to interrogate the common argument “it’s just a personal preference” used to justify people’s sexual and romantic desires for particular bodies over others as well as discuss the impacts digital technology has on sex, dating, and intimacy.
