What You Need to Know about Sex During Pregnancy 

Sadia Arshad, MPH, MSN, WHNP-BC. Born and raised in Miami, Sadia is a brown Muslim woman with experience as a peer sex educator, women's health nurse practitioner, and reproductive justice advocate. She never planned on being any of those things, but life has its way of bringing experiences to Sadia. Growing up in a home full of domestic violence and neighborhood full of health inequalities, Sadia saw several things related to reproductive and sexual health that were often silenced and shamed. As she grew older, she saw the silence and shame manifest, and she wanted to change that. She didn't really know what to do, so she started reading about sex and what it means to have sex as a Muslim woman, a brown woman, and a brown Muslim woman. This, in turn, led her to work with some cool organizations, like Planned Parenthood, Fenway Health, SaheliBoston (a South Asian interest intimate partner violence organization), Advocates for Youth, the National Minority AIDS Council, HEART Women and Girls, and the Repeal Hyde Art Project. After seeing the non-profit life and witnessing serious mishaps in the healthcare industry, Sadia decided that she wanted to go back to school. She completed her nursing studies at Emory University. Sadia is now a board-certified women’s health nurse practitioner in South Florida. She also earned her Masters in Public Health (dual concentration in Maternal and Child Health and Social and Behavioral Sciences) and Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Boston University.
